Geoff Aylward, Q.C.
Geoff graduated from Memorial University with a joint honours degree in Political Science and Economics and was awarded the gold medal in Economics. He became a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1983 and has since then practiced with Aylward, Morris & Pittman and successor law offices.
EXPERIENCE
Geoff has extensive court and tribunal experience. He has represented clients in the Supreme Court Trial Division and Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, Provincial Court, Canada Pension Plan Appeal Board and the Worker's Compensation Commission Review Division.
He published the Newfoundland and Labrador Case Digest between 1993 and 2012. He has presented various papers. Most recently, he presented a paper for the Canadian Bar Association, New Brunswick Section, on the use of medical record evidence in personal injury and disability claims.
Memberships
Geoff is the Chairperson of the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador. He is a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Canadian Bar Association, the American Association of Justice (Brain Injury and Medical Malpractice subsections), the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (Medical Malpractice and Disability Insurance) and the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association. He is a former Chairperson of the National Civil Litigation Section of the Canadian Bar Association. He previously served as a panel chair of the Mental Health Care and Treatment Board.
Personal Background
Geoff and his wife Elaine have three children: Stephen, Erin and Meaghan; and a poodle, Bosun. Geoff is a member of Lions International and The Knights of Columbus.
